Commitment – A verbal or written agreement between a student-athlete and a college coach to attend and play softball at their university.
Early signing period – A time frame during which high school seniors can sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to commit to a college program.
Official visit – A visit to a college campus that is paid for by the university. It includes tours of the campus, meeting with coaches and players, and attending a softball game or practice.
Unofficial visit – A visit to a college campus that is paid for by the student-athlete or their family. It includes meeting with coaches and players, but does not involve any university funding.
National Letter of Intent (NLI) – A binding agreement between a student-athlete and a college program, committing the student-athlete to attend the university and play softball for the program.
NCAA Eligibility Center – A governing body that certifies the academic and amateur status of student-athletes in order to compete in NCAA sports.
Softball Showcase – A recruiting event where high school softball players can showcase their skills in front of college coaches.
Recruiting coordinator – A college softball coach responsible for managing the team’s recruiting efforts, including scouting, evaluating and contacting potential recruits.
